“倍”是形声字：亻（人）提示意义范围，咅提示早期读音。本义与背向、违背有关，后来引申出“原数再增加同样数量”的倍数义。 以上是各字的历史构形说明；“倍”作为现代词语时，应结合完整词义学习，不能把单字意义机械相加。

倍 is a phono-semantic character: 亻 provides a meaning clue and 咅 an earlier sound clue. Its earlier senses involved turning away; the numerical “times/fold” sense developed later.
