How to use an HSK vocabulary list
A list is a map, not a complete lesson. Work with a small batch. Hear each word, repeat it, read the Hanzi and Pinyin, check one clear meaning, and learn one short example. Later, retrieve the word from sound or meaning without looking at the answer.
ChineseAqua gives the same vocabulary several routes: searchable cards, individual Character Lab lessons, Chinese song context, memory methods, and games. Use the route that addresses your actual problem rather than repeatedly reading the same list.
Classic HSK levels and the newer HSK standards
Many popular textbooks and online lists still use the familiar six-level HSK framework. Newer standards use three stages and nine bands with larger vocabulary requirements. Because both systems appear in search results, a trustworthy page must state which one it uses.
ChineseAqua preserves its current classic HSK-aligned dataset and does not relabel it as HSK 3.0. If you are preparing for an exam, confirm the syllabus and format required for your exact test date through current official exam information.

Before you memorise a list
Is this the new HSK 3.0 vocabulary list?
No. ChineseAqua currently organises 2,500 verified records with the classic HSK 1–5 learning framework. It does not relabel this dataset as the newer nine-band list.
Why can word counts differ between HSK websites?
Some sites show cumulative totals, some show only additions at one level, and some use revised standards or different duplicate handling. ChineseAqua shows level-specific searchable records and cumulative totals separately.
What information does each vocabulary card include?
Cards can include Hanzi, Pinyin, an English meaning, pronunciation, an example, and a link to a deeper Character Lab lesson when available.
Is memorising vocabulary enough for the HSK exam?
No. Exam preparation also requires listening, reading, grammar, timing, and the official format used for your test date.
