Phonosemantic compound. 见 represents the meaning and 学 represents the sound. Simplified form of 學. Only the top part of 学 is used, which prevents the character from being too crowded. Originally written as 㝵. Depicts a hand (寸) grabbing a shell (貝), used as currency in ancient China, to convey the meaning "get". The 彳 (movement) component was added later.
